Whore 4 Culture
British Podophile

Welcome back Whores. Did you fill up on bread pudding and sweet meats? Right, I have a confession to make, I’m a total Anglo-podophile…What it, it now I said PODophile.  I realize many of you may have stopped reading, because you think I like to diddle with the privates of British kids, or have a fetish for their feet. When in fact anglophile, someone interested in British culture and podcaster, someone who well listens to podcast. Thus, the newly coined term Anglo-podophile. (Patent, trademark & copywrite all pending).

I grew up watching British comedies, Keeping Up Appearances, Coupling, Are You Being Served?  I’m a Whovian through and through. Tom Baker was my first Doctor, and you know what they say, you never forget your first. To this day I have a fetish for really long scarfs.  While Baker may have popped my Time Lord cherry, David Tennant made me a man, with him it truly is bigger on the inside. All entendres aside, learning about different cultures, traditions, even if they are only trending now, can really up your learned whore status.

When I was in my early twenties, I also had an amazing opportunity to spend several months in England as an actor and educator. Not only was I working with young people, the very heart and soul of culture. The few months I spent their allowed me to get hooked on game shows like Weakest Link and talk shows like The Graham Norton Show, all before they made their big splash in American.  I returned home stateside a bonified anglophile. I had opened myself up to another culture, their way of speaking, their food, and I liked it. I felt like I had my finger on the pulse of a cultural orgasm that was about to explode all over America.

As a self-proclaimed whore for culture I have dipped my preverbal wick in the next big cultural orgasmic wave that is rolling in from across the pond and washing over America…British podcasts.  It is not surprising the term podcast was first suggested by Ben Hammersley a columnist and BBC journalist.  The term was coined in an article on February 12, 2004, combining the words iPod and broadcasting. While Ben is credited with coining the term, Adam Curry and Dave Winer are credited with the invention of podcasting.

A quick podcast history:
  • ·         2004 Libsyn.com was the first to launch a podcast service.
  •  A year later Apple iTunes 4.9 is released with support for a podcast.
  • The same year, 2005 George W. Bush is the first president to have a weekly address delivered via a podcast.
  • ·         In, 2007 Ricky Gervais sets Guinness World Record for the most downloaded podcast.
  • ·         2011 Adam Corolla become the new Guinness Record holder at 59,574,843 downloads.

Here we are just fifteen years after the launch of the first podcast, and they are huge influencers on our culture.  Seems like everyone has a podcast, there are cheap to produce, easy to distribute, and the content, in many cases, are more entertaining and informative than what we watch on television. I’m sorry T.V. you know you will always be my first media love.  Now, there are some great American podcast don’t get me wrong. My Favorite Murder is perfect if you enjoy humor with your true crime. Food for thot ,young queer writers talking about what they like to read and who they like to read. In my opinion the key to an entertaining podcast is not only the subject, but how the material is presented. For a whore like me nothing beats a little sex, comedy, and intellectual stimulation. The Brit Podcast leading the charge is the series My Dad Wrote a Porno about to start its fifth season on September 9. Yes, the show delivers exactly what it promises. Each week #pornomonday, Host James Morton reads a chapter from an erotic novel written by his sixty plus -year-old dad under the pen name Rocky Flintstone. The book is entitled “Belinda Blinked”.  If that’s not enough to get you listening, James is joined by his his two mates Alice Levine and James Cooper, a sassy sexy red-head, and sexual under-educated gorgeous gay. Both add colorful commentary on the novels pros.

The podcast has over 150 million downloads since it’s launch in 2015. The mix of sex, comedy, and famous friends, like Elijah Woods, Daisy Ridley, Rachel Bloom, and Dame Emma Thompson who pop in to talk about the book and to vie for parts in the “movie” makes it a must listen to series.  The show is so popular HBO recently filmed and aired a My Dad Wrote a Porno Live Show.  The Live show often includes “lost chapters” from the overarching story.

As your official whore for culture, I would like to introduce you to some other podcasts from across the pond that will entertain, educate, delight, and shape how we view our world, and how we interact with one another.  #gamechangers

My Dad Wrote a Porno This is a podcast that needs to be listened to in order from episode one or you will lose the narrative of the book. No Such Thing as a Fish, for those interested in odd weekly facts. Help I Sexted My Boss, is for those who finds themselves in awkward social situations. They teach you classy ways to get out of modern-day dilemmas. The Allusionist, is a great one for word nerds. Listening to this series has shown me that language is not only informed by culture but shapes culture as well. I mentioned this guy earlier, David Tennant Does a Podcast with is perfect for A list celebrity interviews. DT give us the B sides of his famous friends well know stories.

Till next time dear friends you learned whores, take some time for yourself grab some wine, spark one up, whatever you do to unwind. Slide your buds deep in your canal and play the day away with these great podcasts.
